Hello Gang
I'm looking forward to another great class with you this week. We will be focusing on "knowledge-sharing" and collaboration through social media. One growing trend that you may be aware of are "Wikis". Wikis facilitate collaboration and working together.
Check out this nice article on a few "free" wiki platforms that you might consider using.

We will cover these and several other tools including how to leverage group discounts, music streaming and "meet ups".
See you soon!

Hi Jeanne,
Nice, I think this research work is a good training for us to help us now what wikis really are.
To me, wikis are these article I take from the net knowing that it might have been written by a simple user as I am, that can help me having an idea of what something is or can be. But I will never be able to trust fully wikis because some ingnorant people sometimes write articles about cities, states, or countries that are actually wrong.
Hi Jeannette,
It's a nice weather isn't it!
This time, I am going to mention my interest and topic is the global warming, so
my question is "What is global warming and greenhouse gas?"
I've already known the major reason of global warming is caused by greenhouse gas,
but I didn't know what is cause of greenhouse gas exactly.
I learned the some major reasons of greenhouse gas from WIKIPEDIA and some sources
Some sources are :
http://globalwarming.com/
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/science/topics/globalwarming/index.html#
http://library.thinkquest.org/CR0215471/global_warming.htm
http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/global-warming/gw-overview/
Cause of global warming can be divided into three groups : air pollution, water pollution, and
destruction of environment.
As is well known air pollution is one of the large issues. Smoke exhaust of industrial
establishment increases around the same time that development of the economy.
Water pollution is also one of the major issues. Sewage contamination is a large question.
People aspire improvement in their living standards according to natural growth of
population because people often has competitive consciousness. Cooking and laundry make
much living drainage.
Global warming is deeply committed to nature. Nevertheless, people carry on the destruction of the
environment. People do forest
destruction in order to do estate development. For instance, they have built a lot of houses and apartments. Also, they have done the development of golf courses for their business and amusement.
I picked up some of sources which I learned.
Why is this topic valuable for me? Because I'm interested in
eco-friendly goods and recycling,
so I want to work on to conduct environmental conservation activities after I go back to Japan.
I think global warming is one of huge problems in the world, so not only I also all people should
boost awareness of ecology to protect the earth.
What do you think about global warming?
Thanks, have a great weekend, Jeannette!!

Wikis' family is my second best friend after google !
Yet, I mistrust Wikis' because sources are not always that reliable. But I like the concept : sharing knowledge (especially for free) is really cool ! Like it ! ^^
Madjid.
I choose to do some research online for MLA.
MLA is shor for Modern Language Association which is for scholars of language and literature. MLA writing style is designed for concise work sited in the reference. An alphabetical list of works cited is required according to the principle. Of course, there are many others complicated rules to follow. If I need more information, I should buy a book called MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. Fortunately, I found this book in the UCR library. This is an important information for me to start my final research paper.
I used google, wikipedia and yahoo to research.
Hi Dr. Guignard
I am not a great fan of Wikipedia information for research. This is because it is an open platform where anyone can post information and there is no way to verify whether or not it is correct. From your article link I do find PB Wiki interesting. It seems more for business use. I have also signed up for their free online business webinar on Wednesday, November 2 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific.
Hi Jeannette,
Thank you for the link. I think that wikis are very useful, easy to use, and most of the time free, so it's fast to find information. The fact that it allows people to share their knowledge by editing a topic can improve the information and become more valuable, but in the same time, it's open to everyone with knowledges or not, so the source can become unreliable.
Gwen
Hi J,
Thanks for the link it was helpful to have a better understanding of wikis!
I know I should start using Wikis, but I tend to only use wikipedia, to look for information on really random subjects. Like to know more about a country or anything.
I should start using the RSS feed though but that's still new to me. I'll may try out one they recommend in the article.
Wikis is very useful to find information. However Wikis' information is incorrect and wrong sometimes.
i think it's really very useful to use wiki where can give me a lot of information, especially when i do some research or paper work~~
thank you,Jeanne
what's more, the tools you introduced us last week,it's so good that i can use in my daily life~~
I have to agree with Timothee. I've never though of Wikis as legitimate sources for information. It's great that people can share and collaborate but a lot of wikis boast themselves to be go to places for information. The fact that withnmanynanyone can contribute without verifying the accuracy of the information vein submitted devalues the content somewhat.
